meadow of sun-drenched smiles

meadow of sun-drenched smiles

estefaaano_writes

-

I gazed into the earth

Observed every fault line.

How long did I stand in the garden?

I gazed into your eyes

Your hands in mine

And the stars chanting our name.

Beneath the champagne-colored skies,

We lie in the soil

Weeks to the ground below.

Wide-eyed wonder,

Looking out into the moonlight.

See how flowers grow,

Beneath the place your head once lay,

They're crying for you still.

All he wanted was home.

Just the two of us,

As I sit here alone,

Left to find myselfā€”

Ridding of all that I had known.

How the time flies,

Spending life times.

Time passes on,

See how they strayed from the path.

When the sins of the fatherā€”

Are the sins of the son.

When your name and decay,

Unify.

Your bridges burnt out,

The trees never grew out.

You've made yourself drown with,

No one to pull you out.

Carnage on my tongue,

Petal-veined devourer.

Grief has made me blind,

Cruel, quick, hungry,

Who could blame?

Let my spirit flow to the sea,

Let it go,

And let it be.

The title is so ironic considering the content of the poem, and I love that. The contrast between the "sun-drenched smiles" and the pain you describe is so effective.
