MEASURED HEART BETWEEN THORNS AND UNDERSTANDING
MEASURED HEART BETWEEN THORNS AND UNDERSTANDING

Patience,
A shield against the storm of spite,
Empathy,
A bridge through darkest night.
Breathe deep and slow when tempers flare,
Find the calm within, a moment to spare.
Listen first, with an open heart and mind,
In their words, some truth you may find.
Set boundaries firm, yet gentle too,
Protect your peace,
But let understanding through.
Choose your battles wisely,
Let some go.
Not every slight needs a counter-blow.
Seek common ground amidst the strife,
A seed of accord may sprout new life.
Remember always, beneath their thorns,
A fellow soul, perhaps forlorn.
With kindness and grace,
Disarm their guard,
Transform the difficult into regard.
If all else fails,
And peace seems far,
Know when to step away,
To heal your scar.
In the end,
It's your own heart you must tend,
Balancing compassion with-
the need to transcend.
and he's back!

ReplyDeleteTook me years to learn what this poem says in just a few lines. Strength isn't about winning, it's about maintaining your composure and understanding.
ReplyDeleteWish I'd read this before my last relationship. Could've saved us both a lot of drama. Learning when to step back is as important as leaning in.
ReplyDeleteProfessionally and personally, this is spot on. "Choose your battles wisely" should be framed in every workplace and home.
