What Remains?

What Remains?

-

Give me a minute.

Just one will do.

I say goodbye to the gossamer skies.

The city moves out of frame.

You remain.

Give me a minute.

Kiss me again.

Cloudy blue skies are gone now.

I would trade everything.

The pain stays.

Maybe it is time to forget.

Maybe it is time for blame.

No one is at fault.

We are just late.

I give you a minute.

You have peace.

I say farewell.

You do the same.

I am what remains.

Pray, grant me but a moment's pause,

A single minute shall suffice;

I bid adieu to heaven's gauze,

While urban vistas shift from view,

'Tis you alone who doth remain.

A moment more I do implore,

Bestow upon me one last kiss;

The azure skies, now veiled and dim,

I would relinquish all my name

To ease this most persistent pain.

Perhaps 'tis wisdom to forget,

To cast aspersions on your name,

Or fix the blame where it may fall;

Yet fault lies not with either soul,

We were but merely tardy in our aims.

I grant you now your minute's peace,

A farewell bid to what, I cannot tell;

I fancy you shall do the same,

And I, perchance, am what remains.
