inequity
inequity

-
a crushing weight, suffocating,
wounds festering in the dark corners of society.
screams swallowed by indifference.
our world,
now a funhouse mirror of broken promises.
justice,
now a tattered flag in the wind.
the weak trampled underfoot,
while the mighty build their thrones on broken backs.
hope withers on the vine,
dreams turn to ash.
we search for light,
but find only the glint of tears on hollow cheeks.
fairness delayed is a noose around our necks
choking out the last gasps of faith.
we claw at the walls of our own making,
desperate to right the wrongs that devour us.
still, our hands bleed, and our voices crack
in a world that's lost its way.
This is a battle cry!

the lines are so powerful, very timely; a truth that needs to be shouted from the rooftops.
ReplyDeleteintense emotions
ReplyDeleteI always admire your precise word choices.
ReplyDeletehoooo this one's a tough read.
ReplyDeletebut an essential one for sure.
jeeeezzzz, it's that realization that we're complicit, that the system is built by us, even as it devours us.
ReplyDeletea truly haunting reflection. 🙃
incredible, heartbreaking work.
ReplyDelete"Fairness delayed is a noose around our necks choking out the last gasps of faith."
ReplyDeleteExactly! It's not just an inconvenience; it's soul-destroying.
You always manage to bring the vastness of a problem down to an individual's pain so powerfully.
ReplyDeleteYou don't just describe inequity; you make the reader feel it.
ReplyDeleteunforgettable 😭
ReplyDeletethis is an eye opener, we became too complicit people
ReplyDelete🙊
ReplyDeletetragic
ReplyDeleteEstefaaano_writes, I don't know how else to say it but... thank you. Every single line of this poem felt like it was pulled directly from my own life, from my own experiences with a system that just doesn't care.
ReplyDeleteIt's not just poetry, it's my truth. You've given voice to the very real, brutal pain of living through this kind of injustice. Thank you, truly, for seeing it and for sharing it.
The repeated 'I envy you' in your last poem, 'I.NV.U', felt like a personal longing. This poem, 'Inequity,' feels like a collective sigh of despair and frustration.
ReplyDeleteThis. All of this. I felt every single line. I grew up in a place where we were constantly told to be grateful for scraps while others feasted. Your poem gave voice to that gnawing feeling in my stomach, the one that said, "This isn't fair." Thank you for putting words to this unspoken truth.
ReplyDeleteYour poem took me straight back to my childhood. The whispers in the neighborhood, the way some families had so much and others had so little, and how those differences dictated everything. You articulated the subtle ways society reinforces these divides. It’s a powerful piece, and honestly, a bit of a relief to read someone else express exactly what I've felt for so long.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this powerful poem.
ReplyDeleteI've always struggled to explain the systemic issues that create and perpetuate poverty, but your words cut right to the core of it.
My parents worked themselves to the bone, hoping for a better life for us, but the system just wasn't built for them. Your poem brought tears to my eyes because it perfectly describes the crushing reality of watching people you love give everything and still come up short, not because of a lack of effort, but because the odds are stacked against them.
ReplyDeleteFor years, I've bitten my tongue, tried to "fit in," and downplayed the injustices I've witnessed or experienced. "Inequity" hit me like a lightning bolt. It's given me the courage to speak up, to acknowledge my own story, and to advocate for others.
ReplyDeleteThanks for lighting that fire estefaaano_writes!
All I can say is, I am deeply moved.
ReplyDeleteI read "Inequity" and had to just sit with it for a long time. It evoked so many emotions, so much understanding of experiences I've seen others go through and even felt myself. It’s rare to find a piece of writing that connects so deeply with the human condition and makes you truly feel the weight of its message. Kudos! 👏🏻
