You'll never really know what it's like,

'til it happens to you—

The way a heart stops, restarts, remembers.

Is us overrated?

Thousands of faces but I always come back to you.

They say this is just chemicals and chance,

A brew of dopamine and fate.

Except they haven't felt the gravity,

This force beyond control,

That pulls me to your space.

They'll never understand how, You.

In crowded rooms, my compass spins,

Until it finds your north.

Tried to write it off as ordinary,

Tried to call it just another love.

But ordinary doesn't echo-

In your bones like this.

Tried convincing myself it's simple math,

Just proximity and time.

But no equations can explain,

Why your voice breaks all my rules.

How every path I choose to wander,

Somehow leads me home to you.

You'll never know what it's like, I say,

'til lightning strikes your soul.

Now I know why poets write of fire—

Some burns rewrite your entirety.
